et cetera | the fine art of the gesture

in 1958, bruno munari, a restless inventor, designer, italian and human published a small pocket book with an enormous presence. between its covers, in a little over one hundred pages, munari briefly recounts the history of the neopolitan hand gesture and its original documentation in 1832, by canon andrea de jorio, before presenting a collection of the most recognisable and international of those gestures. sans vulgarities. each one is described in dry taxonomic format and illustrated by an elegantly composed photograph  opposite. it seems fitting that we present the following spread in honour of our two friends ronan & sophie. with much love. "congratulations -  the shaking of the two hands. it is a useful gesture to congratulate somebody at a distance"
